Take One (or three) Martinis, + a Circle, What Do You Get?

I like circles. They’re neat little shapes with a beginning and an end that depending on how you look at one, can either standout or fade into the abyss of its shape.

I don’t care for squares—never been a fan of right angles either. I mean how boring is a right angle? (Totally boring!) Triangles are fine, (I like things that come in odd numbers) as are trapezoids and all those crazy shapes that do their own thing. But when it comes right down to it, I like circles the best. I like them when I run because I know I can always find my way back. And I especially like them when I drink martinis … circles can be so much fun when mixed with olives (three to be exact, if you know, you know) and vodka … particularly when you run into one (literally) at a restaurant or bar.

Yes … I’m going somewhere with this peeps, hang tight … this is less than a 90-second read.

A few years ago, I was out with a group with of friends when I had the marvelous experience (thanks in part to that aforementioned martini) of running in and around a revolving door … you know, like in the movie Elf. The valets didn’t think I was very funny, but the hostess was amused as were most of the incoming guests. One gentleman even left his seat at the piano bar and joined me for a few rounds. Of course, I think he was more interested in the prospect of getting close to me than the actual running around in circles but, it was exhilarating, nonetheless. Really—just until the point where one of my friends joined me, pulled me out, tossed me over his shoulder and insisted that it was time to leave (much to the dismay of the guy from the piano bar). Apparently, my friend hadn’t had as many martinis as I and didn’t find my shenanigans very funny. He must like squares.

As for the superstition part … (this post is inspired by today’s daily prompt: Are you superstitious?) … well, yes, there’s the three-olive thing (again, if you know, you know) but I also have a few little rituals I adhere too when I fly, when I’m frightened, when I need to calm myself … and, as it turns out, they are all circle-related. They are slight. Small little things I do that unless you’re really paying attention, you wouldn’t notice. Come to think of it, one time, after a flight, I had a nun who was sitting a few seats behind me ask me if I was alright. She must have understood what I was doing with my fingers. Alas, I am not going to share. Why? Well, if you have to ask, then you must not have any little oddities (superstitions) yourself, because clearly, me sharing would break the “code” lol : )

Across many cultures, circles are viewed as symbols of protection. They’re commonly woven into rituals and spell work to guard against harmful spirits or unwanted energy. Circles also echo the shapes of the sun, moon, and planets, which is why they hold such strong significance in astrology and various forms of witchcraft. ✨

(𝑥 – a)2 + (y – b)2 = r2

Oh, and for all you super smart people out there … that’s the equation of a circle. Yes, it’s a real thing. Duh.
